Since his separation from wife Madhurima, singer Sonu Nigam has been making solo appearances at all parties and premieres.
However, on Saturday night, Sonu escorted a charming young Englishwoman, Chantal Norton, to Sony’s 10th anniversary party at the Grand Hyatt; the pair sauntered in well past midnight.
Sonu introduced her as, “My good friend from London”. Insiders insist there was more to it than met the eye. Apparently, Chantal aka Chanti (pronounced Shanti) is a filmmaker from London, in the city on a “mission to make a couple of meaningful movies”.
Met in Mumbai
So where did they meet? “We got to know each other in Mumbai and have been in regularly touch since the last four months. When I first met him, I didn’t even know he was so famous and popular; it came as a pleasant shock to me when I discovered it.
Later, I heard his songs and music and simply loved his voice. Although I am not a singer, I play a few musical instruments. Honestly, I found Sonu a very kind and caring soul, who is guiding me in my mission,” discloses Chanti.
Sing for Chanti
Though she is very pretty, Chanti does not wish to face the camera. “But I may coax Sonu to face the camera or sing at least one number for my movie, which will have culture and relationships as its theme. Currently, I am taking lessons in speaking and understanding Hindi,” she laughs.
Even as Sonu readies for his next season of Indian Idol (Sony) eliminations, it is apparent that his British buddy Chanti has found her off-screen Indian Idol.
** hmm...well...i dont really know what to say...i told my friends about this and they kind of jumped at the opportunity to start insisting that he's not great after all and i should stop idolising him...well no. 1, i think he can go get a life if he wants to, no. 2, well its not very obvious that they're "together" and you cant just follow rumours and start jumping on the poor guy...they seriously may just be friends for all we know... and even if they are more than friends, its his choice! ( you know..actually why else would the girl be learning hindi and all that..? and did i say i dont like her much...? oh well...and its not pleasant "shock" it should be pleasant "surprise"...lallooo girl! the words juxtapose...where's her english hello???) anyway...i've said enough...
p.s. its a nice picture of him by the way =)
