Baal baal dekho

With macho men like Hrithik and Dhoni letting their hair loose (literally) in style, matters of mane have just taken a serious curl.

They defy the rules. And they are happily setting a trend at that. Right from King Khan to Mahendra Singh Dhoni; Sonu Nigam to now Hrithik Roshan, Indian men have never looked so hot with long locks ever before.

Remember that dirty frown you had each time you watched Nirmal Pandey's unkept hair or Bobby Deol's curly mane? We bet you don't have it anymore, since long hair's getting sexier this season!

The biggest hunks and the best voices of the nation are letting their hair loose (literally) in style.

"If carried off well, then long hair can surely add sex appeal to your personality," says model-turned actor Shawar Ali who has maintained long hair ever since he'd started his career.

"You can also have so many options of leaving them open, have a messy or uneven look or tie them up in a pony. But of course, whatever you do, has to be in style," he adds.

And then, you can end up looking equally hot even when you don't have that perfect gentleman look. Like director Rakeysh Mehra says it, "Maintaining a prim crew-cut style is a bit too difficult given the conditions that we work in.

We have long working hours and an erratic lifestyle, wherein I find keeping long hair far more convenient." But of course, who's got the time for a barber when you are busy colouring the nation 'basanti'!

While for some it's just a matter of convenience, for others like singer Kailash Kher having long hair is just an extension of his personality.

"I am a gypsy at heart and a Sufi singer by nature, so maintaining long hair comes naturally to me. The way you make your hair reflects a lot about your personality. I certainly don't believe in the prim 'n' proper look, hence I preferred that image," he says.

Be it on the camera or behind it, long hair has already made its presence felt. Says actor Ashmit Patel, "Different hairstyles indeed seem to be the latest in men's fashion. But I feel, not many can carry it off as gracefully. John Abraham looked great with long hair." Having said that, Patel adds, "It's tedious to maintain them though. And you should try it only if it suits your persona and if you got nice quality hair."

Something that hair stylist Saleell Kaarkhanis also vouches for."Long hair may not go well with certain professions, however the fact that it's gaining popularity can't be denied.

It's the highly recommended style statement for the season, but I wouldn't recommend chemical treatment for straightening," says Kaarkhanis, who has been sporting long hair for 20 years now! Women, you sure got some competition here!

** Haha i thought this article was quite funny...considering the amount of scrutiny and criticism Sonu Nigam's hair has undergone. I'm happy to see that they accept it as a style statement now, although he never meant it to be anything more than just a change of hairstyle...
