Garam Masala

Garam Masala

When Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Paresh Rawal come together in a high voltage comedy, it should have been aptly titled 'Mirchi'. But then the makers chose to give it an alternate name and here we have 'Garam Masala' joining the season of comedies that are all working in a big way. With Priyadarshan at the helm who has behind him a hat trick of successes with Paresh Rawal [Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul] aided by three gorgeous women making their debut [Daisy, Neetu, Nargis] and Rimmi Sen as a part of the starcast, GM promises to be a fun ride all the way this 'Diwali'. Remake of Priyan's own Malayalam hit 'Boeing Boeing', GM has music by Preetam and lyrics by Sameer.

Album begins on a superb note with a rollicking track 'Ada' that has Sonu Nigam at his youthful best. There is a distinct 'chanak' in this full of life 'running behind the girls' genre of songs that works due to a racy rhythm, some funky musical arrangements, a signature tune and catchy lyrics. Inclusion of a bit of rap within the song only enhances the effect of this visually appealing track that is HIT from the word GO. Add to that the hunks Akshay Kumar and John and there is no doubt left about the song turning out to be a chartbuster. Seemingly an 'introduction' song of the male leads, 'Ada' also appears in a remix version by DJ Suketu and continues the feel of rock and roll. A winner!

Yet another track that begins on a funky note is 'Falak Dekhun', a rhythmic love song by Sonu Nigam that is written by Mayur Puri, a regular with Pritam. A likeable number, it is well sung by Sonu Nigam who seems to be thoroughly enjoying his stint behind the camera in this track. This is yet another track that is expected to be picturized beautifully. It won't top the charts but would be liked nevertheless. There is one more version of 'Falak Dekhun' that could be termed as a ’de-mixed' version of the original due a mellowed down approach with Udit Narayan coming behind the mike this time around.

** these new SN songs sound real nice and exciting...cant wait to hear 'em!!!
SN sings a song in Hersh Kohli's Kaun Ho Sakta hai as well...supposed to be good (obviously, it's SN!) but yeah...can't wait to hear that as well...

Koi aap sa songs

ok....my mistake...i listened to the koi aap sa songs again, and i decided i like them...baandh mere pairon mein is very nice...highly bouncy, happy, danceable song, you just wanna start nodding your head to the song, and SN does a marvellous job in it, he sings very very well, as usual, and i really enjoy the lines "you're always on my mind, o mahiya ve"...very well sung song...

and as for the title song koi aap sa by SN and Alka Yagnik, its also very very nice, the chorus is lovely...beautiful tune along with mesmerising singing by Sonu Nigam...yup...so i basically i love all the SN songs in koi Aap Sa...actually all the songs in this movie are really quite nice...good track overall...

Koi Aap Sa and Pyaar mein Twist

some of the latest Sonu Nigam songs...

Koi Aap Sa

Pyaar-Mohabbat returns with a bang in the form of 'Tere Dil Ka Rishta', a solo by Sonu Nigam that gets the album back in the groove. A track about a guy wiping tears off his best friend, it has some touching lyrics by Sameer that should sound quite well in the narrative of the movie. A song about hope and affection, it never drags and instead peps up the mood. The feel of the song is again typically Himesh Reshammiya i.e. melodious and sugar-candy. A sweet number with an effective chorus, it is sure to bring on a smile.

Just like 'Aadat', a remix of 'Bandh Mere Pairon Mein' arrives before its original. Choodi, kangan, jhumka, jhoomar, payalia, Reshammiya, Sameer – and you have all the ingredients ready for a tried and tested recipe. The trouble in the case of 'Bandh Mere Pairon Mein' is its all so predictable that there is a strong feeling of déjà vu, what with the tune being so similar to Reshammiya's own 'Saawariya Re O Saawariya' from 'Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye’. Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan are all excited and spirited with Jayesh providing "outside support", but overall the track somehow fails to click as it doesn't have the ONE important factor going in its favor - "listener going for that 'repeat' button"!

The album seems to be going in a see-saw mode with songs alternating between melodious and dance track. Hence it is the turn of a melodious track to come up next which incidentally is the title song 'Koi Aap Sa'. A Sonu Nigam-Alka Yagnik song, it is good to hear but lacks the effect that one expected from the title song of a romantic movie. Sounding oh-so-similar to 'Ik Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai [Shor], it is a decent number though and a fine listening but that's about it. Nothing everlasting about it!

Pyaar mein Twist

Undoubtedly the best song in the entire soundtrack in the movie, 'Dhui Rappa' [that has accompanying beats straight out of 'Banke Tera Jogi' from Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani - again by Jatin Lalit] it is a frothy track sung quite well in the youthful vocals of Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan. With plain and simple lyrics by Sameer given a feel good tune by Jatin Lalit, the song has all the potential to be popular.

** i havent really seen pyar mein twist around yet, but i heard the koi aap sa songs, they're quite ok, but i absolutely fell in love with Tere Dil Ka Rishta by Sn of course...its such a fresh, sweet, beautiful song...mostly sweet actually, its a lot of joy to listen to it, very dil-touching...=) and the tune is very nice too, of course, so overall its a really great song, sonu nigam's voice enhances the entire thing...unfortuntely i didnt fall in love with the other SN songs from koi aap sa...they're ok, but nothing that great...of course SN sings well in it, worth listening to the song just to hear SN's voice, but the songs themselves arent that fantastic...

Tere dil ka rishta rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Indian Idol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

**get ready to start dancing with joy....=)

Another pulsating 'Indian Idol' series is here
Chandigarh | September 19, 2005 6:25:06 PM IST

Reality singing show "Indian Idol" that had set off a musical frenzy among television viewers will be back on the small screen soon with auditions for this year's series beginning in October.
The first Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant, announced the comeback of the show here Monday. Two other finalists of the earlier show - Rahul Vaidya and Aditi Paul, flanked him.

Sawant announced that registration of candidates would be done till September end on phone as well as by a team of the organisers that would tour 13 cities across India.

Auditions for the selected candidates would be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Lucknow.

After screening, 150 contestants would be short-listed by "Indian Idol" judges - music director Anu Malik, director-choreographer Farah Khan and singer Sonu Nigam.

They will choose 28 singers for the national level show on TV. That list would be brought down to just 12 finalists who would then compete for the coveted title of "Indian Idol" in November.

Sawant had won Rs.10 million besides a luxury car and other prizes when he was voted the best singer earlier this year. Based on "American Idol" and telecast by Sony TV channel, the first series of "Indian Idol" saw over 55 million viewers hooked to the show.

Sawant, who hailed from a middle class household, said his life had completely changed after the show, bringing him fame and success in singing. He said all the finalists of the previous show were also doing well in Bollywood's music industry now.

** I am TRULY so delighted, no words can express it...just simply, YAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is really very gladdening especially after one article said that Sonu might not be there in Indian Idol for the new season because his schedule was very tight and all that, which kinda got me depressed and I was hoping very very hard that he would come back...and he has!!!!!!!!!!!
Love ya Sonu!
